Challenges of sustainable livestock farming - closing of the Conference
The biggest challenge ahead of us is in communicating about sustainable livestock farming, said INAC President Conrado Ferber at the closing of the conference, the event's host, INAC President Conrado Ferber.
As it became clear that livestock farming is not the problem, and that the quantification of the cattle shadow was a mistake, which generated the need to explain and defend for 20 years, the time has come to look ahead and work with the "new FAO", concluded Ferber.
The closing of the event that took place in Punta del Este, between November 5 and 6, was in charge of the Minister of Livestock Fernando Mattos, the FAO regional representative for LAC Mario Lubetkin and the head of the National Meat Institute.
The joint work is about globalized livestock farming, because not all environments are for the same livestock farming, but all livestock farming is important in the three dimensions of sustainability, Ferber stressed.

Minister Mattos commented that many countries are taking actions in relation to sustainability and there is an opportunity to work, guided by an organization such as FAO, to help coordinate and try to ensure that the production-environment relationship reaches a good result, because livestock farming is much more of a solution than a problem, said the Secretary of State.
The FAO representative commented that by the numbers of the conference, it has been a tremendously successful event: 11 ministers, 3 deputy ministers, about 1000 people following online at key moments and 500 accredited attendees, as well as the set of ideas to work with angles of analysis but along the same path, a production with social equity and environmental care.
